Proxy Website for blocked overseas voter registration

Tue Sep 21, 2004 at 09:42:36 PM PDT

As you all may know, the Pentagon has blocked the voter registration site for many overseas voters.  It has come to my knowledge (through Salon) that a proxy site has been set up.

Here is the link.

Spread the word.

I tried to start something up with this last night, but it was late... do the various relevant sites (overseasvoter.com, etc.) have the link?

If we eliminate the slippery slope argument, pretty soon we'll eliminate all argument and everybody will agree.

You know I appreciate that this is issue is again being raised and I am extremely disappointed that Kos, Atrios or Josh Marshall has chosen not to address it and give this issue some exposure.

I actually experienced this blockage months ago and posted it here and elsewhere (it was a huge pain in the ass), and it was only by contacting the Asian Chair of Dems Abroad that I could obtain the forms quickly enough to vote in the primary.

There is HUGE interest among expats this year to vote - I have never seen anything like it in five years abroad - but the DOD is trying to stop the flood.

And contact your Democratic Congressmen and ask them if they are doing anything about this issue, or hell, if they are even aware of it.

    ... now watch this drive.

  •  What is the site that's blocked? (none / 0)

I went over to http://www.electoral-vote.com and then followed the link to http://www.overseasvote2004.com

is fvap.gov. It's only blocked for certain overseas ISPs - the only one I remember offhand is Wanadoo in France.

The issue here is that the government itself is blocking access to the site it has set up to help overseas citizens to vote. And of course they're doing it in a technically inept and pointless way.

BTW, I just noticed that the proxy (and mirror) are set up via verifiedvoting.org. I'm interviewing with them tomorrow. Kossacks please keep your fingers crossed - I would LOVE that job. Direct your karma toward San Francisco around 4pm tomorrow. :)
