Dean: GOP will try to blame immigrants.

Sat Aug 06, 2005 at 07:49:38 AM PDT

It sounds like Dean is on to the Republicans new blame and distraction plan.

Democratic Party Chairman Howard Dean argued on Friday that Republicans will try to make immigrants the "scapegoats" in the next election.

At a rally, Dean garnered the loudest applause when he said Republicans would make immigration a pivotal issue during upcoming elections, as they did gay marriage and affirmative action in previous elections.

"Do you know who the scapegoats are going to be? Immigrants," he said. "In Colorado, the chairman of the Republican Party endorsed Tom Tancredo for re-election. That is morally reprehensible. The governor of California, a supposed moderate Republican, invited the Minutemen to visit California. We do not need vigilante justice."

Dem fundraising soars.

Fri Aug 05, 2005 at 05:12:47 PM PDT

This is very good news.  I am very happy to see the Democratic Senate campaigns rolling in dough.

The numbers reveal that the Senate Democratic campaign's money effort, under Sen. Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), has leapt ahead of its GOP counterpart both in its fundraising rate and in terms of cash on hand. That is a sharp turnaround from the equivalent stage of the 2004 election cycle, when the Republicans had raised $14.5 milllion and had $5.3 million on hand while the Democrats had raised $10.8 million and had $2.6 million left in the bank.

This is wonderful news.  The underdogs are showing their strength.  The Democratic Party may be the minority party now.  But this is a temporary insanity that the U.S. will recover from.

Biodiesel baby steps.

Fri Jul 29, 2005 at 02:09:23 PM PDT

I am hugely in favor of finding alternative energy forms to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.  Most Americans are probably in favor of this concept except the people who are currently running the country.  But aside from the chosen few in this world who make money from oil or have campaigns funded by oil companies, the rest of us need to cheer on attepts to use alternative forms of energy.

Governor Rod Blagojevich (bluh-GOY'-uh-vitch) yesterday signed the legislation that will require state, county and local governments to fuel their diesel cars and trucks with two percent biodiesel.

Is the Kerry bashing hurting sick children?

Thu May 12, 2005 at 08:02:20 PM PDT

There certainly seems to be a lot of Kerry bashing on this website.  Almost an obsession.  Get over it.  He lost.  Stop the blaming.

He is not going to get the nomination for the Democratic Party in 2008.  Good.  He shouldn't.  He had his chance.  It is over.

But Kerry is still fighting for the children in the United States.  Kerry has a lot of name recognition.   I am thrilled he is going around the country speaking out on behalf of the 11 million uninsured children in this country.  Someone needs to and Kerry is.  We need him on Oprah.  He can babble about the lost election.  Whatever needs to happen.  We need him on every damn talk show in this country speaking out for the children.

Helping people with chronic diseases. The beginning of a win.

The healthcare system can be difficult to navigate.  There is not a lot of support for patients and their families.  As a society, we need to assist patients and their families in negotiating the health care system, especially among underserved populations.

Legislation sponsored by U.S. Representative Robert Menendez (D-Hoboken) that will make it easier for Americans to access health care cleared a key hurdle by passing the House Energy and Commerce Committee today.

http://www.dems.gov/index.asp?Type=B_PR&SEC

The legislation would require NCI, HRSA and IHS to award grants to provide individuals from populations affected by health disparities prevention, early detection, treatment, and follow-up care services for cancer and chronic diseases.  Wonderful!  This is exactly what is needed.  As many of you know, 45 million of Americans do not have health insurance.  This may encourage those people to neglect to get preventative healthcare that is needed.  The disparity in healthcare in this country is absolutely real.  Absolutely unacceptable.

Congratulations, Senator Kennedy. Thanks for fighting for us.

Wed May 04, 2005 at 02:29:03 PM PDT

The Democrats actually had a few wins yesterday and Senator Kennedy was instrumental in making them happen.

Washington, D.C. Yesterday, House and Senate negotiators struck a deal on the $82 billion Iraq supplemental bill and included three of Senator Edward M. Kennedy's measures. Senator Kennedy led the fight in the United States Senate to secure millions of additional dollars for lifesaving humvee armor and held the President accountable on progress being made to train the Iraqi security forces and the impact on our troop levels. On immigration, Senator Kennedy and Mikulski fought to raise the cap on seasonal workers for small businesses. All three measures were included in the final conference report.

Wake up, America! The war is wasting our money!!

Fri Mar 25, 2005 at 08:23:47 AM PDT

Many Americans do not seem to care about the cost of the war in Iraq in terms of lives lost.  They definitely do not care about the over 100,000 Iraqi who died.  And, overall, I don't think they care that much about the Americans who have died either.  (dKos community aside, of course)

So let's foucs on money.  Americans love money.  I guess we need it to buy more stuff from China.  Let's constantly reinforce how much this war is costing us.  Let's focus on the financial burden.
